Corvette Generations

The Chevrolet Corvette has evolved through eight distinct generations, typically categorized by "C" designations (C1 through C8).
C1 1953–1962: Original solid-axle design; pioneered the fiberglass body.
C2 1963–1967: Introduced the "Sting Ray" name and independent rear suspension.
C3 1968–1982: Longest production run; featured "Mako Shark" inspired styling.
C4 1984–1996: A total redesign emphasizing handling and modern electronics.
C5 1997–2004: Introduced the LS1 engine and a much more rigid chassis.
C6 2005–2013: Reintroduced exposed headlights (first time since 1962).
C7 2014–2019: Reintroduced the "Stingray" name; final front-engine generation.
C8 2020–Present: Radical shift to a mid-engine layout.
Notable Historical Detail
You may notice that 1983 is missing from the list. While it was intended to be the debut year for the C4, quality control issues and production delays meant that no 1983 Corvettes were ever sold to the public. Only a handful of prototypes were built, and only one remains today, housed at the National Corvette Museum.
